Oar Health Surpasses 50,000 Patients Served, Solidifying Role as Category Pioneer in Virtual Medication-Assisted Alcohol Treatment

With 108% in Year-Over-Year Growth, the Virtual Platform is Transforming How America Approaches Alcohol Use Disorder

Oar Health, a virtual care platform offering FDA-approved medication to help people drink less or quit, today announced it has surpassed 50,000 patients served, a major milestone in its mission to make treatment for alcohol use disorder (AUD) more accessible, effective, and stigma-free. This milestone, paired with the company’s 108 percent year-over-year member growth, underscores the rising demand for a reimagined approach to alcohol treatment.

Approximately 28 million Americans aged 12 and older struggle with AUD, yet only 2.5 percent of people are prescribed any medication to help them drink less or quit, despite decades of clinical evidence supporting its effectiveness. Oar Health is closing that gap by bringing its online evidence-based care model to the masses.

Members complete an online assessment, and upon qualification, receive a personalized treatment plan and a prescription for naltrexone, a daily, FDA-approved pill that is delivered directly to their door, without in-person visits, pharmacy lines or judgment. The medication, which works alone or alongside other treatments, changes the brain’s response to alcohol, curbing cravings and reducing the frequency and quantity of drinking.

"I founded Oar Health because I knew that people like me needed more options to drink less or quit,” said Jonathan Hunt-Glassman, CEO and founder of Oar Health. “It’s an important step toward our vision of a world where no one hits rock bottom to see 50,000 people get access to safe, effective medication through Oar Health. But we’re just getting started.”

Oar Health currently supports 11,913 active members and is on track for 93 percent revenue growth in 2025. The company remains month-to-month profitable, a rare position in today’s digital health landscape. According to internal data, 73 percent of Oar members who take their medication as prescribed report drinking less within two weeks, highlighting the power of combining science-backed treatment with accessible care delivery. Members who drink less experience other benefits, with 46 percent experiencing weight loss, 69 percent stating they perform better at work, and 79 percent reporting better sleep.

“As Chief Clinical Advisor at Oar Health, my focus is ensuring that treatment is evidence-based and accessible,” said Dr. Joshua D. Lee, Chief Clinical Advisor at Oar Health. “We know that reducing or stopping alcohol use is likely to result in significant improvements in health and wellbeing. We also know that treatment makes it easier to cut back or quit. So, it is a huge win for the individuals we’ve treated, their families, and their communities that 50,000 people have chosen to start treatment through Oar Health.”

As demand continues to grow, Oar Health remains focused on delivering treatment that’s simple, effective, and patient-led, helping more people cut back or quit drinking on their own terms. “Our next step is to complement access with expertise, providing each member with world-class knowledge and advice on how to meet their goals,” Hunt-Glassman continued.
