Stories from the Homeland: Knowledge and Memories Connecting Sinaloa

Pacifico Mexinol (“Mexinol”) announces the conclusion of the pilot program “Relatos del Terruño” (Stories of the Homeland), a collaborative project that documents and shares the historical and cultural legacy of Topolobampo and Ohuira Bay. The initiative was developed in conjunction with members of local communities to highlight stories that are part of the regional identity and that continue to be passed down in daily life. This program seeks to contribute to their preservation through documentation and dissemination mechanisms that strengthen collective memory for future generations.

Mexinol staff participated in the filming and production of two videos, working alongside community members, that showcase traditional fishing methods, tools, and practices, as well as the origins and customs of Indigenous cuisine, including preparation methods and dishes that are part of the region's cultural identity.

“Mexinol is proud to have participated and collaborated in the creation of this pilot program, respectfully supporting the creative process. The decisions about what to tell and how to disseminate the materials belong to the storytellers,” said Helaman Gámez, Communications Manager for Pacifico Mexinol.

“Relatos del Terruño not only seeks to preserve history, but also to create spaces where communities continue to share their experiences and knowledge. This space is open to anyone who wishes to participate in sharing new stories and continue building collective memory,” said Loreto Coronado, community researcher and creator of the project.

At Transition Industries and Mexinol, we believe that development only makes sense when it is in harmony with life and history. Our values are inspired by a deep respect for the communities and the natural environment that sustains us. Therefore, the Pacifico Mexinol project in Sinaloa is not just a methanol plant: it is a commitment to responsible innovation, transparent dialogue, and the preservation of the region's rich cultural and environmental heritage. We work to ensure our operations are sustainable, using recycled water, reducing emissions, and implementing measures to protect Ohuira Bay and its biodiversity.

Likewise, we understand the value of building respectful relationships and caring for the planet. This “Relatos del Terruño” pilot program was born after years of dialogue with the local community by Mexinol staff and an understanding of their interest in preserving the memory of their ancestors.
